Art nouveau was at its peak between about 1890 and 1910 it consisted of long flowing lines and was seen most in architecture, ornaments, interior design, as well as jewellery, glass and posters. <!--more-->

Imagine this, staircases with black entwined, flowing railings perhaps with floral or leaf designs. Tables would be adorned by coloured glass lamps which might have leaves at the base of them. Gates on the entrances to buildings have swirling plants patterned into them.

The term Art Nouveau first appeared in the Belgian art journal L’Art Moderne in 1884 to describe the work of Les Vingt, a society of 20 progressive artists.

Names like William Morris, Aubrey Beardsley, Gustav Klimt, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Antoni de Toulouse-Lautrec, Alphonse Mucha, Henry van de Velde were leaders in the Art Nouveau movement.

There are so many well-known artists here, architects to kings, caricature artists, textile designers and even stained-glass windows.

No matter what your interest is in Art Nouveau, we hope you will enjoy our pieces here.
